DOVE ADVERTISEMENT
Due to rapid development of technology and misused of media’s persuading power through its advertisements or endorsements, the essence and quality of the real beauty is distorted. And seemingly everything is edited. Because of media, people became more conscious with their physical appearance that leads in using different whitening or tanning solution, drugs for a sexier figure, everything that could make people physically sexy and attractive. Even photos can now be edited through Photoshops. A subject’s face with dark spots or pimples can now be perfectly flawless, a fat person can now be sexy and an unattractive person can now be attractive. Nevertheless, media can also change the mind set of everybody. If you’re not sexy, fashionable, flawless and attractive you’re not in, you’re an outcast which I find it very ironic with my personal experience. I’m not that tall, I’m having a dark complexion, I’m not that pretty, I’m not really particular with beauty products, I just used face powder and I’m not that fashionable but I am well-accepted by everyone. In fact they would love to see me with natural and simple look. Therefore, media has the power to distort the real beauty but it is our choice if we will allow that distortion happen.
SUSAN BOYLE
I admire Susan Boyle. She’s talented, very honest to herself and contented. Even if she’s older than any other British Got Talent contestants, fat, physically unattractive still she was able to pursue her dream and she never mind those people who loved to give negative feedback's and reactions with regards to her physical feature. Not just only that, she has an extent fighting spirit and confidence. For sure Susan saw the negative reaction of the audience upon seeing her but still she remains confident, at ease and with posture. I believe she knows that she can’t please everyone with her physical feature but she can amaze everyone with her golden voice. A very different person compare to me. I’m afraid of receiving and hearing negative feedback's from other people. I don’t want that people view me in such a negative way that’s why as much as possible I want to look good, I want to impress everybody and it really leads me to pretension. But thanks to Susan’s video, little by little I started to learn and understand the real essence of being me. No more pretension mode, just being true to myself.
CULTURAL ETHNOCENTRISM
The video simply shows that cultural ethnocentrism is everywhere. By our own deeds, our own ways, and our own actions, we also tend to think that we are more superior over someone. And indeed, it has no positive side. It just create division and discrimination among others. For example, comparison between those who are black than those who are white. Mostly, people think that white people are more superior, productive, and efficient in everything but take a look at Pres. Barrack Obama. He's not white but he's the President of the United States of America. Therefore, it's not a matter of color nor culture but it's the matter of character.
God made us with unique talents, skills and intellect, and He look unto us fairly. And so even if we have individual differences we should really know each other and understand as well.
